Portrait of Father

This is a painting of the painter’s father. He was a test-pilot and general in the soviet military. He is carrying his wife, the painter’s mom, in his arms – and she is bound to him for various reasons, the most likely one is supposedly that he does not drop her. Although he is at the top of a steep mountain, the vehicle that he is stuck with is a bicycle, opposed to the MG-4 that he was used to traveling on. One his eyes is a black square. Although you might think that the black square is a representation of the black square of Malevich, the famous suprematist artist, however this would be incorrect. The black square is the symbol of the repression this man had his entire life as a military man. At the left is a church that had it’s cross removed – symbolization of atheism and communism in the USSR.
