Fallen Angel
5' by 3' Oil and mixed media on canvas
In 1917 the Russian land was overpowered by a new ruler: The Soviets. The angel you see is bandaged, in the shape of a person, symbolizing that he has no individual identity, as well as the new rules and law. As he descends, the Soviet hymn "Falling Angel" plays on the gramophone. He carries in his hand the new symbol of the nation: A bloody red rag. This will be the proud flag that the population will need to live for. He will erect this flag on yet another church. The church in the background already has this punishment to be proud of.
